O&A partners with Loyola Law School at its annual Law Firm Reception to provide opportunities for students

Continuing a long-time collaboration benefitting law students preparing to enter the professional world, O&A, P.C., met recently with dozens of Loyola Law students at the school’s annual Law Firm Reception.

The reception was hosted by Loyola’s Career Development Office to provide students with an opportunity to meet with more than 20 small and midsize law firms for spring and summer law clerk positions, as well as post-graduate positions.

O&A has developed a relationship with Loyola Marymount University over the years and continues to invest in the students of the university and the law school. O&A Associate Attorneys Claudia Herrera (LLS ’19) and Andrew Yang (LLS ’20) returned to the downtown Los Angeles campus to speak to students about O&A and its StartupProgram.com (SUP), and to hear about the students’  diverse backgrounds and experiences ahead of a more formal interview process. Herrera and Yang previously had participated as judges for the school’s Transactional Negotiation Team and had met some of the students prior to the reception. O&A Managing Partner Dan Offner has lectured in the Business Planning course as a part of the Business Law Practicum.

O&A was a popular participant at the reception, with students drawn to the firm’s expertise  in venture and corporate law as applied to content and technology. Students lined up across the room for an opportunity to learn about the firm’s practice and SUP.

SUP is a legal platform for new companies to establish a solid legal foundation from day one. The program includes SUP Academy, an educational platform that teaches entrepreneurs and students alike about the importance and details of how to structure a company with venture funding in mind. SUP Academy includes O&A’s proprietary cap tables, which allow companies to measure founder ownership percentage and plan out funding scenarios once they start attracting investors.

“It was incredible to see the interest students had in our firm and very rewarding hearing their perception of SUP,” Herrera said of the reception, “They communicated to us how unique the platform is and that it is definitely a tool startup companies can get the most benefit from.”

Caroline Toole, assistant director of the Career Development Office, said, “Our students are highly interested in transactional law and the role of lawyers in working with business-innovators in emerging markets. O&A’s participation in Law Firm Reception was an important opportunity for our students to get real-world advice on how to gear their careers toward serving the unique needs of cutting-edge entrepreneurs and startups.”
