O&A reveals how to optimize a startup for venture capital at Techstars Atlanta workshop

At the first event since announcing a new partnership with startup incubator Techstars Atlanta, attorneys from entrepreneur law firm O&A, P.C., recently shared with an audience of founders the critical steps for building scalable startups – as well as common mistakes that can doom a new company.

O&A Managing Partner Dan Offner, Senior Associate Attorney Stephen Bush, and Associate Attorney Claudia Herrera covered converting a Georgia-formed business into a more venture-friendly Delaware corporation, the benefits of creating a strong legal foundation early in a startup’s life, and many other topics critical to setting up young companies for success.

“Being able to bring O&A’s StartupProgram.com (SUP) to the Techstars community in Atlanta was a great privilege and a lot of fun,” Offner said. “We always learn from each group of entrepreneurs whom we work with, and that was true with the Atlanta Techstars team of entrepreneurs. We hope that SUP and SUP Academy will continue to grow and be adopted by entrepreneurs as a way to build a better foundation for their future growth.”

O&A specializes in helping startups correctly form and to be optimized for seeking venture capital. The partnership with Techstars gives participants access to this information at the critical point where they are taking a good idea and making it into a real business.

O&A’s SUP serves as a legal platform for companies to establish a solid legal foundation from Day One. The program includes SUP Academy, an online curriculum that teaches entrepreneurs the importance and details of how to structure a company with venture funding in mind and includes SUP’s proprietary cap tables.

As part of the partnership with StartupProgram.com, TechStars participants can enroll in SUP Academy at no cost, and have the opportunity to go through the main SUP program at a discount. With the full SUP, O&A attorneys are hands-on in setting up the legal foundation for companies.

“The SUP Academy content, along with the direct help of Dan and the O&A team, has had a notable impact on the companies going through the Techstars Atlanta program,” said Tim Dorr, managing director of Techstars Atlanta.  “O&A has truly embraced the #givefirst philosophy of Techstars and we look forward to continuing this partnership together.”

Techstars accelerators, based throughout the United States, run three-month programs in which  startup entrepreneurs are connected with mentors as well as a network of corporate partners, investors, and alumni. The incubator also provides funding and fundraising opportunities, workshops and resources.
